Speaking during a funeral service to bid farewell to the father of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Ichung’wah said that God should forgive the two leaders for their reckless statements about the life and death of the late Prime Minister.

At the time, while addressing a rally in the Eastern region, Gachagua distanced himself from the accusations, saying he was not a bacterium, nor was Kalonzo Musyoka a virus, who had also been accused and therefore could not make anyone sick.
“And I want to pray that may God forgive the governor for Nyeri; may God forgive him; may God forgive those who were celebrating when our nationalist and Pan-Africanist leader Raila Odinga was sick and mocking him, saying they are not viruses or bacteria. May God forgive them,” Ichung’wah said.

He further pleaded for God’s forgiveness for Governor Kahiga over his recent statements that appeared to celebrate the death of the former Prime Minister, remarks that sparked outrage from various quarters and eventually led to Kahiga’s resignation as the Vice Chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG).
Pleading for God’s wisdom
Ichung’wah added that God should remind the two leaders that they are not immortal beings who will live forever, asking God to grant them the wisdom to weigh their words before speaking.

May God notify them that they are mortal beings like all the rest of us, and for the time that we are serving, whether in the church, in our families, or in positions of leadership, we will serve in a way that makes our society better.
Uproar after Kahiga’s remarks
Mutahi Kahiga has caused a stir in the political scene, with even the united opposition, where he appears to lean politically, distancing themselves from him, saying that is not the position of the coalition. The government’s spokesman, Isaac Mwaura, on the heels of Kahiga’s remarks, came out calling upon NCIC to take action on him.
