Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya now says he would rather resign from politics than join Deputy President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Speaking to a local television on Friday, Oparanya said there was no way he could team up with Ruto's side when they were selling different ideologies to the electorate.

"I have never imagined joining Kenya Kwanza. I would rather retire, go home and become a farmer than join Kenya Kwanza Alliance," the governor said.

Oparanya was responding to claims that he was headed to the Ruto-led alliance and that he was set to be unveiled today in a rally in Kakamega.

The governor also weighed in on Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula's move to join hands with DP Ruto.

"Musalia and Wetangula have been an obstacle to some of us. Them moving the other side now gives us a chance to deliver Western to Azimio," he said.

He also said the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) is gaining momentum in the Western Kenya region.

"DAP-K has come at an opportune time. We are not competitors; we complement each other because all of us are in Azimio," he said.
