I am the better option – Mutua tells Mt Kenya ahead of 2022 polls

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has told residents of Mt Kenya that he is best suited to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Monday, June 28, Mutua told Mt Kenya residents that he has the interests of central Kenya at heart.

“The people of central Kenya love me a lot and I appreciate them. I was in Kirinyaga and the way the people were looking at me showed that they love me,” Mutua said.

The governor added that he cannot hurt the people of Mt Kenya because his wife is from the region stating that his children have the blood of the mountain flowing in their veins. 

“I am Muthoni. I have married from you people. I can not hurt the grandfather of my children. The people of Central Kenya trust me. They know I worked with President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru,” Mutua said. 

According to the governor, Mt Kenya needs an alternative option come 2022.

This people just need to be given an option. They were not given an option. I am giving you, the people of Mt Kenya, the better option,” Mutua claimed. 

He further urged Uhuru and Raila to stop mentioning Ruto, adding that by mentioning him, the leaders are building Ruto. 

“When I go to the ground, I don’t mention Ruto, I speak about what I will do for the people,” Mutua said.

Early in June, Mutua and his Meru counterpart Kiraitu Murungi drummed support for the formation of a strong Eastern political coalition ahead of 2022.

The two governors, who spoke during the burial of a Member of Meru County Assembly Eunice Karegi at Imenti Central, said there is need for the eight counties from the larger Eastern region to form a strong voting block that will bring together all like-minded parties.

The leaders who were accompanied by a section of area legislators and MCAs, said the region needs to come together under one powerful umbrella party.

“We need a strong coalition that will bring together the eight counties from Eastern part of Kenya that will help us produce a strong flag bearer to run for presidency come next election,” Mutua said.

Kiraitu further regretted that for many years Mt.Kenya East has been treated has an outsider politically since independent .
