Homa Bay MCAs call to probe Governor Awiti over fire engines
Some Homa Bay MCAs have challenged Governor Cyprian Awiti to explain why the two fire engines, which were to be delivered to the county three months ago from UK, are still being held at Mombasa Port.
Led by Homa Bay Town East MCA Juma Awuor and his Central ward counterpart Julius Nyambok, the leaders appealed to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the delayed delivery of the fire engines that they attributed to corruption.
Recently Homa Bay deputy Governor Hamilton Orata assured residents that the Cumbria County Council in the UK had donated two firefighting engines and an ambulance to the County government to assist in emergencies.
The leaders were reacting to Sunday’s incident in which fire gutted the official residence of newly-posted Homa Bay County Commissioner Herman Shambi.
Important documents
“Everything was gutted down to ashes including important documents and the children’s books,” the County Commissioner said yesterday.
The MCAs questioned why the fire could not be contained yet the commissioner’s house is behind the County Assembly.
