Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is a sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The latter was a 2017 action comedy that starred Ryan Reynolds as the beleaguered bodyguard to a world-renowned hitman played by Samuel L Jackson.

Both films are farces that seek to poke fun at the international spy genre. What follows are fight scenes choreographed to hit pop songs, gunfights, explosions and boat and car races.

Director Patrick Hughes does quite a good job with the film with innovative scene shots and sequences.

As the action comes in quick and heavy, the line quickly becomes blurred on who exactly is the good guy.

Satirical films work best with an ensemble cast. This film is no different. Morgan Freeman comes in as the adoptive father to Reynolds the bodyguard and is also a highflying and extremely capable bodyguard, who is also extremely disappointed with the lackluster nature of his son’s bodyguarding career.

Salma Hayek is cast as the hitman’s wife, a sexy Mexican woman with sharp heels and a sharper tongue that can trade insults fluently in both English and Spanish.

To further complicate things, she has an ex-lover who just happens to be Antonio Banderas, a Greek man bent on world domination by whatever means.

The film makes for great laughs even when the storyline veers towards the unbelievable.

It is an action comedy that one should watch if they are intent on passing time while having a good time. SCORE: 8/10
