Haunting past: Pauline Njoroge’s appointment into tourism board revoked
Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Najib Balala on Saturday revoked the appointment of blogger Pauline Njoroge into the board of Tourism Regulatory Authority over her earlier statement that Nairobi National Park is ‘economically redundant’.
CS Balala announced the revocation at Maasai Mara where he had hosted guests with Brand Kenya in a bid to promote tourism.
The appointment of Ms.Njoroge into the board was met with harsh criticism by Kenyans after her alleged Facebook post emerged. Critics questioned how Ms.Njoroge would serve at the board whose properties she was against.
In a statement from the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife on Saturday, CS Balala said integrity of Nairobi National Park is very critical.
CS Balala said he was revoking Ms.Njoroge’s appointment with immediate effect over her past tweet criticizing the park.
“I am revoking Pauline Njoroge’s appointment as a board member of Tourism Regulatory Authority because we have just seen what she had tweeted in the past that Nairobi National Park was useless,” said CS Balala.

“We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking,” he added.
The CS said he was not aware of Ms.Njoroge’s past views on the park and he thanked Kenyans on social media for bringing the matter up.
