The National Heroes Council has unveiled a new list of nominees for National Heroes 2025, highlighting contributions in governance, public service, and sports.

Among the proposed honorees are Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nasir, alongside Harambee Stars stars Wesley Ogam Rabok, Omar Aboud, Bryne Omondi, and midfielder Alpha Onyango.

This is according to the National Heroes Council notice issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nasir is being recognised for his transformative public service and governance. His leadership has been credited with promoting equitable national revenue sharing, safeguarding the integrity of devolution, and leading institutional reforms that enhance fiscal discipline and citizen engagement.

Under his administration, impactful social programs have been rolled out, including bursary initiatives and key investments in primary healthcare, benefiting communities across Mombasa County.

Harambee Stars shine at CHAN

Alpha Onyango is being honoured for his influence in midfield for Harambee Stars. He earned two Man of the Match awards for his performances, helping shape the team’s strategy and competitiveness during the 2024 CHAN Championship.

His nomination underscores the importance of consistent performance and leadership on the field in promoting national pride.

Wesley Ogam Rabok played a pivotal role by netting two crucial goals that propelled Kenya’s campaign in CHAN. Captain Omar Aboud led the team to the quarter-finals, demonstrating strong leadership and teamwork, while goalkeeper Bryne Omondi earned the Man of the Match award for critical saves that kept Kenya in contention.

The nominations span a spectrum of achievement, from exemplary governance to sporting excellence, highlighting individuals whose dedication has made a lasting impact on the country. Members of the public are invited to review the proposed names and submit objections or representations within 14 days through the National Heroes Council.

Through these nominations, Kenya continues to celebrate figures like Abdullswamad, Mwanahamisi, and the CHAN heroes whose contributions have elevated the nation on both national and international stages.

If approved, they will be feted during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
