Harambee Stars forward Jonah Ayunga nears return after lengthy injury
Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat could soon receive a huge attacking boost as Jonah Ayunga of St Mirrens is close to a full return from an injury.
The forward has missed a number of actions for club and country following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he suffered in January during a Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell.
In an update, that should be welcome for both the country and the Scottish club, Ayunga is nearing his return.
“Jonah Ayunga is nearing a return to first-team action after completing 90 minutes in a bounce game at the SMiSA Stadium on Thursday.
“The 26-year-old forward has been out with injury since January when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a cinch Premiership match against Motherwell,” St Mirren said.

Search for fitness
Ayunga, who received his first call-up to the Kenya national team on August 5, 2016 but did not play, has engaged in a number of matches as he tries to regain full fitness.
“The striker has been back in full training for just over a month and has now completed 45, 60, and 90 minutes across three bounce matches as he looks to regain match fitness.
“It will be a welcome boost for Stephen Robinson’s side, with Jonah impressing in his first half season at Saints last year, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances,” St Mirrens’ statement added.
Recently, Ayunga extended his contract with the Premiership club after initially signing an original two-year deal. His new contract will see him serve the club until 2025.
Meanwhile, his return will give Harambee Stars’ coach Firat options in the attacking department. Michael Olunga, Masoud Juma, and, to some extent, Moses Shummah and Benson Omala have been the only available strikers for the national team.
