Haji opens another case against Sonko

By , February 4, 2020

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko could find himself in more trouble after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji directed police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to furnish him with files of a land dispute case in which the governor has been adversely mentioned.

This is after the DPP listened to cases of land injustices from residents of Kilifi, during the opening of Kilifi Social Justice Centre in Mtwapa on Monday.

Families evicted from a disputed 230-acre piece of land in Majengo Kanamai, told the DPP the governor was allegedly behind killings and forced disappearance of persons in the area over the land.

Haji asked Kilifi county  police boss to ensure all individuals mentioned in the case have recorded statements.

“I want that file with me by Wednesday. And I want statements from all those mentioned in the cases,” said the DPP.

Officials from human rights lobbies, led by Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid, also made presentations on land injustices.
