Gusii derby on offer
Giants Shabana FC and fast-rising Gusii FC are scheduled to face off in the Kisii Derby at this weekend’s FKF National Super League round of 16 standout fixture.
Ten places and seven points separate the two local rivals on the table, with the hosts seeking to maneuver their way up from the current sixteenth position while the visitors, Tore Bobe, aim to re-ignite their top-three pursuit from the current sixth place.
These two clubs have already met twice with both encounters ending in draws but coach Andrew Ongwae believes, it’s Gusii who has the edge to win the first derby and claim the derby’s bragging rights.
Last season
“It’s going to be a mouth-watering game. Last season we played two draws home and away, and we are now going for the bragging rights this weekend. We’re going all guns out,” Ongwae said.
Ongwae said their belief to emerge victors in the encounter stems from their recent good run of form where they have only lost once in nine games. “Our problem has been scoring and we have been working on that department a lot and we are happy it’s coming,” Ongwae added.
He acknowledged that their neigbours Shabana is a strong team and have been doing good as well, now that the team has new coach, Sammy Okoth who has brought new life to the team again.
“He is a good coach, my former coach too at Zoo Kericho. I have worked with him before and we know what to expect tactically. So it’s going to be a game of tactics,” Ongwae said.
Gusii will, however, miss the services of their main striker Joshua Ratemo who is out with an injury after pulling an arm string during their last weekend’s match against Zoo Kericho, a match they won 2-1.
