Former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo on Tuesday, August 22, held talks with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leadership on matters of economic development, days after the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party signed a pact with the coalition.

Gumbo unsuccessfully ran for the Siaya governor's seat on a UDM party ticket in the just concluded August 9 elections. He lost to James Orengo of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

The politician was accompanied by members of professional groups from the counties of Kisumu and Siaya.

The meeting was hosted by Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi in Nairobi.

"They had the opportunity to discuss an array of issues touching on the economic prosperity of the region, elaborate plans, and progressive strategies aimed at strengthening sustainable development," Mudavadi said in a statement after the meeting.

"The groups indicated their readiness to work closely with the incoming Kenya Kwanza government to advance regional development and promote the economic status of the people."

The UDM party leadership led by Mandera Senator-Elect Ali Roba signed a post-election pact with Kenya Kwanza on Saturday, August 20, formally ditching the Azimio One Kenya coalition.

“Kenya Kwanza has grown...over time many members have joined, today UDM has joined and like any other members before you, UDM will become an equal member like all the others,” Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto said.

“Kenya Kwanza is broad enough to accommodate all of us. Karibuni sana.”

The party pledged to work with Ruto following his election as Kenya's fifth president in the August 9 polls.
