By Joel Masibo, November 8, 2025The government has pledged to shed more light on the abduction and release of Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who went missing in Uganda on Wednesday, September 1, 2025.

More details
”Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo are free and on Kenyan territory. Late last night, after lengthy engagements, the two were released to our High Commissioner in Uganda, H.E. @MaangiJoash.”
“They were escorted by the Ambassador and officials of the Uganda government to the Busia border town and were received by Busia County Commissioner, Chaunga Mwachaunga. Deeply grateful for the efforts by different actors who made this outcome possible. We shall be releasing a more detailed account later,” PS Sing’Oei said via X.
Also, in a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, November 8, 2025, human rights activist Hussein Khalid confirmed Njagi and Oyoo’s release. The release follows relentless calls and pressure from human rights activists, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the opposition leaders.

“Following a night of frantic following up, VOCAL Africa, in partnership with Amnesty International Kenya and the Law Society of Kenya, can confirm that Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo are free and back in Kenya,” Khalid stated.
On their part, Vocal Africa, LSK and Amnesty International Kenya welcomed the release of the two after 39 days of their enforced disappearance, extending gratitude to the Kenyan and Ugandan governments over the same.
“We extend our appreciation to the Kenyan and Ugandan governments at the highest level and the immediate former President of Kenya for their cooperation towards their safe return. We thank their families, Free Kenya movement colleagues, human rights defenders, journalists, diplomats and active citizens who have tirelessly campaigned for this moment,” VOCAL Africa said.
Bobi Wine blasts Museveni
Meanwhile, the freedom of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo comes weeks after the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) failed to disclose the whereabouts of the two abductees, prompting the National Unity Platform party presidential aspirant and Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, to blast President Yoweri Museveni’s regime.

”Like it did with comrade Sam Mugumya, whom it abducted 2 months ago and remains missing to date, the shameless Museveni regime has also denied having in its custody our Kenyan comrades Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, whom it abducted in Kampala on 1st October!
“A regime that came to power 40 years ago, promising to end gross human rights violations, is now blatantly engaging in even worse! We must end this impunity once and for all, fellow Ugandans!” Wine took to X on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
