Govt activates 6 key security measures ahead of festive season

The government, through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, has announced the implementation of six comprehensive security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season across Kenya.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the Ministry acknowledged that while the overall security situation in the country remains calm and stable, the festive period typically brings increased travel, heightened activity in social places, and a surge in tourism.

“Based on past trends, we are aware that this period may see isolated increases in security incidents, traffic violations, and other opportunistic criminal activities,” the statement noted.

National security coordination

To safeguard lives and property, the government has rolled out six measures. First, the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) has been activated to coordinate surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response.

“The Centre is manned by officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, National Youth Service and National Government Administration,” the release stated. Similar centres have been established at regional and county levels.

Second, the National Police Service has operationalised festive season Operation Orders for intelligence-led security operations and maintenance of law and order nationwide.

Third, enhanced security coverage has been deployed across the country. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Kenya Coast Guard Service, have been stationed at entry and exit points, airports, border crossings, hotels, shopping malls, public beaches, tourist sites, central business districts, places of worship, and entertainment venues.

“All officers previously on leave have resumed duty,” the Ministry confirmed, adding that the Ministry of Defence is providing logistical and air support.

Traffic and crime management

Fourth, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), in collaboration with the Traffic Police Department, has launched a nationwide traffic operation to improve road safety and facilitate traffic flow. The operation includes deployment of EACC officers to deter corruption, multi-agency coordination, and mobile courts where necessary.

Fifth, Regional and County Security Committees have intensified counter-terrorism preparedness and implementation of Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) County Action Plans, with heightened surveillance on critical infrastructure and public gatherings.

Sixth, a nationwide crackdown led by NACADA targets illicit brews and drugs, alongside escalated operations against organised criminal gangs and cultural crimes such as FGM, defilement, forced marriages, and domestic violence.

Public cooperation urged

The Ministry emphasised shared responsibility in maintaining security. “We urge all wananchi to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers throughout the festive season,” the release appealed.

Motorists have been advised to plan journeys carefully and consider alternative routes, while the public was encouraged to report suspicious activities.

“The government remains fully committed to ensuring a peaceful, secure, and orderly festive season for all,” the Ministry concluded.
