Governor Sonko’s flashy arrival to Voi court for hearing

Like all things Sonko, Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi’s first and possibly last appearance in Voi court to answer charges of assaulting a top cop was bound to be flashy and memorable. The glitzy politician did attract attention.
He arrived in the sleepy town on Tuesday morning in a fleet of flashy fuel guzzlers—Toyota Lexus followed by a Range Rover Vogue, Toyota Prados, Land Cruiser V8s and Sonko Rescue Team ambulance.
When he alighted, he was a different Sonko. The pomposity was all but gone. He walked casually, sandwiched between his lead lawyers—Cecil Miller and George Kithi.
He never threatened or cursed a battery of reporters who were darting all over him to get the best shots they could get.
When the court session kicked off, it was a brief affair. Before Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi, the prosecution informed the court the complainant—Coast Region Police Commander Rashid Yakub—was no longer interested in pursuing it and wanted it to be withdrawn.
Lawyer Miller said the accused legal team was happy and had no objection to withdrawing of the case.
The court said the final decision will be made on Wednesday. Afterwards, Sonko left the court and retreated to a hotel in Voi town for a two-hour long meeting with his team.
