Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said the ODM leader Raila Odinga is not sellable in the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking to local television Thursday, July 21, the Machakos County boss urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to think of an alternative if they want to stop Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to the presidency.

He argues that the region has a negative political perception about the ODM chief adding that President Uhuru cannot change that in the remaining period to the next General Elections.

“Selling Raila Odinga into Mt Kenya at this time will not work. I am talking as someone who has relatives and links from Mt Kenya,” Governor Mutua said.

“It will not work 100 per cent as it should. So, he has to come up with a plan B on who else will remove votes from William Ruto if he doesn’t want him to succeed,” he added.

According to Governor Mutua, DP Ruto has taken control of the region and it will therefore need a persuasive strategy to deny him votes.

He says President Uhuru must think of an elaborate plan if he wants to stop DP Ruto, failure to which he will be succeeded by his deputy.

“DP Ruto has been chipping Mt Kenya from within using state machinery and using state power. Does President Uhuru Kenyatta want to be inherited by DP Ruto? If he doesn’t care then it is okay but if he does, then he has to look for a plan B. If he doesn’t do that Ruto will inherit him,” he stated

Governor Mutua noted that the Mt Kenya region has shifted in terms of the kind of leaders they want and issues they want to be addressed.

While appearing to root for his presidential bid, Mutua asked the President to think of fresh leaders who can persuade voters in the region and deny DP Ruto the Mt Kenya votes.

“When I was going round in Mt Kenya talking to people and selling my party, I found that people are hungry for something fresh,” he added.

His remarks come several weeks after he affirmed that DP Ruto enjoyss massive support in the Mt Kenya region than anyone else.
