The government recovered Sh322.2 million from cybercrime related offences while 14,000 government services were on-boarded on the e-Citizen platform last year.

Statistics released yesterday by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration also indicate a total of 148 illegal firearms were recovered last year in the ongoing operation against bandits in the North Rift.

According to the report, 279 other bandits were arrested and a total of 26,968 cattle recovered from bandits during the same period.

To complement the work of other state security organs especially the National Police Service, a total of 1,702 police reservists were trained and recruited in Baringo, Samburu, Laikipia, West Pokot and Meru counties.

The report however does not capture the number of people killed by bandits during that period but the attacks last year claimed the lives of over 150 innocent Kenyans including over 20 security officers in Baringo, Laikipia, Samburu, Turkana, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties.

During the same period, dozens of schools have been closed, thousands of families displaced, and public amenities and infrastructure destroyed by these criminal gangs.

The operation against poaching netted 2323 poachers who were charged with various wildlife crimes across the country.

The government also sustained operation against illicit brews across the country, with special focus in some parts of Central region.

A total of 8463 people were arrested over illicit brews, another 6,800 were nabbed for drug related offences, and 929 members of criminal gangs were also arrested during the same period. To ensure that prisoners do not relapse into crime after serving their sentences, the government embarked on a rehabilitation programme.
