The government has extended the date for reporting of Form Ones by one day after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i declared May 3 a public holiday to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr, which will mark the end of Ramadhan.

In a letter sent to regional directors of education by the Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan, Form Ones will now report on May 4, 2022.

In his letter, Jwan urged the regional directors of education to ensure that schools are notified of the change to avoid inconveniencing the learners and parents.

“The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has gazetted 3rd May, 2022 as a public holiday, which is the date Form One student were expected to report. Consequently, it has been decided that the reporting date for Form One students will be from May 4, 2022. Please ensure that all schools are notified of the change,” Jwan said.

May 3 Idd-Ul-Fitr will be celebrated as the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of fasting among the Muslim faithful.

Matiang’i had made the announcement detailing the day as a public holiday in a special gazette notice.
He had also declared Friday, April 29 a public holiday to accord all Kenyans the opportunity to participate in the state funeral service in honour of the late third Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki who died last Friday.
The funeral service will be held at Nyayo National Stadium ahead of his funeral in Othaya, Nyeri County.
