This friendly was organized after the cancellation of the 2024/25 season curtain-raiser match between Gor Mahia and Police FC, which was called off due to the unavailability of a suitable venue.

The FKF Shield Cup showdown was initially scheduled for Sunday, August 11, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex as part of a Community Shield match.

Gor Mahia are now turning its attention to the upcoming CAF Champions League match against El Merreikh Bentiu of South Sudan, set to take place in Juba.

Should Gor Mahia succeed in eliminating their South Sudanese opponents, they will face the Egyptian giants and defending champions, Al Ahly.

Meanwhile, Police FC will be making their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they are set to compete against Ethiopia Coffee FC.

Gor Mahia were scheduled to participate in the Coal City International Cup next month to further prepare for their continental Champions League matches.

Their campaign was set to kick off against Brazilian side Corinthians Paulista on August 2, 2024, followed by matches against Benin’s FC Coton on August 4, 2024, and Nigeria’s Remo Stars on August 6, 2024. However, the trip was unsuccessful due to player protests.
