FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia secured a double victory over Tanzanian side Fountain Gate in a pre-season friendly match at Tanzanite Kwaraa on Sunday.

The Kenyan giants edged their opponents 1-0, with the match-winning goal scored by Enock Morrison, who unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the 18-yard box into the top right corner of the net.

Gor Mahia first win

This latest win follows Gor Mahia’s narrow victory over Fountain Gate just two days earlier, where Sharrif Musa scored the decisive goal shortly after halftime.

Despite a scoreless first half, Gor Mahia found their rhythm early in the second half, and although they faced a setback when Alpha Onyango was sent off, they held on to secure the victory.

The friendlies were organized following the cancellation of the 2024/25 season curtain-raiser match between Gor Mahia and Police FC, which was called off due to the unavailability of a suitable venue.

The FKF Shield Cup showdown was initially scheduled for Sunday, August 11, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

With these matches behind them, Gor Mahia is now focused on their upcoming CAF Champions League clash against El Merreikh Bentiu of South Sudan, set to take place in Juba.

A successful outing could see them face Egyptian giants and defending champions Al Ahly in the next round.

Gor Mahia’s failed trip

Meanwhile, Police FC are preparing for their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup, where it will compete against Ethiopia Coffee FC.

In preparation for their continental matches, Gor Mahia were set to participate in the Coal City International Cup this month, with their campaign initially scheduled to kick off against Brazilian side Corinthians Paulista on August 2, followed by matches against Benin’s FC Coton and Nigeria’s Remo Stars on August 4 and August 6, respectively. However, the trip was cancelled due to player protests.
