Gor, Bandari, Sofapaka and Tusker to wait longer for last season’s KPL cash prizes

Kenya Premier League (KPL) defending champions Gor Mahia, last season’s second to fourth place finishers Bandari, Sofapaka and Tusker will all have to wait until the league organisers land another sponsorship deal to be paid their winning bonuses.

KPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Oguda has acknowledged that they owe the top four clubs their winning bonuses but since the exit of league sponsor SportsPesa, they are unable to pay the clubs.

“No club has been paid their winning bonuses. The amount is accrued and paid upon the receipt of the sponsorship fee but unfortunately SportPesa terminated the agreement. The clubs will have to wait until we land a new sponsorship deal,” said Oguda.

He added: “The cash award is usually included in the awards ceremony budget and since SportPesa left we could not pay.”

By virtue of winning the league Gor Mahia are owed Sh 4.5million while second placed Bandari were set to receive Sh 2.2 million.

Sofapaka and Tusker’s bonuses are Sh 1.5million and Sh 1million for third and fourth places respectively.
