Elderly and People Living With Disability in Ruiru, Kiambu county have welcomed the government’s registration drive for beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii Fund with most of them asking to be receiving cash through mobile phone transactions.

The registration exercise which was stopped in 2017 also targets orphaned children and old people aged over 70 years as well as persons with severe disability.  Most of the beneficiaries have also appealed to the government to consider channelling the cash transfers through mobile phones rather than going to get the money in banks for safety. Ruiru MP Simon King’ara who supervised the drive said the constituency should be considered for allocation of more funds given the huge population and the high number of would-be beneficiaries.

“For instance on the first day of registration at Biashara ward alone, more than 600 people with disability turned up whereas the area was allocated 114 slots in that category. Yet this is, only one out of eight wards,” the legislator observed.
