Newly sworn-in Ghana’s President John Mahama landed in the country late deep in the night on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

President Mahama was welcomed by Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah who disclosed that the Head of State was in the country for the African Union Summit scheduled to kick off on Monday, January 27, 2025.

The summit will majorly focus on AU reforms ahead of the February 2025 African Union Commission (AUC) elections in which former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is among the candidates contesting for its chairmanship.

“Welcomed His Excellency John Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana, as he arrived in the country for the African Union Summit on Reforms. This summit presents an opportunity for African leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue, address critical reforms, and chart a transformative path for sustainable development across the region,” Ichung’wah wrote on his official X page.

He noted that Ruto will host the summit for his appointment as AU champion for Institutional Reforms in February 2024 which Ichung’wah maintained will be key for making critical decisions regarding the future of the continent.

Other Heads of State are expected to jet in for that important summit.
