Kenya African National Union (KANU) Chair and a section of governors drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, alongside the former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, paid a visit to the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Opoda Farm and the family mausoleum in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi.

The visit, which was led by the former Ghanaian president on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, saw the leaders converge first at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where they were welcomed by the Odinga family, led by Ruth Odinga and Raila’s son, Raila Junior.

The event was presided over by the Siaya Governor James Orengo, who took that moment to thank the ODM governors, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and his Busia counterpart Paul Otuoma, for paying their tribute to the departed former prime minister.

Other leaders who were part of the delegation included former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, former minister and chair of the Azimio running mate selection panel Noah Wekesa, and former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio.

Gideon Moi went ahead to pay his tribute, reminiscing about the old moments he shared with the late leader before his death in India.

“I remember the last conversation I had with Raila was one of humour, one of promise. He promised that we will meet after he returned from India, but that never happened,” Gideon Moi said.

He said their phone conversations were always filled with laughter and humour, and the late Odinga, while undergoing medication in India, had promised to meet him upon his return.

Leaders paying tribute post-burial

With Raila having stated in his will that he should be interred within a period of 72 hours, many leaders were unable to mourn the late ODM Premier, leading them to visit the family after the burial since most did not have time to speak during the ceremony.

Leaders from across the country have been flocking to the home of the late Raila Odinga, beginning their visits at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where he was interred, laying wreaths before proceeding to Opoda Farm to meet the family.

The door was first opened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who visited the home two days after the burial. Other leaders, including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, visited the home on the fourth day when Raila Junior was crowned as the head of the family to take over after his father.

Several leaders, including Makau Mutua, Junet Mohammed, Oscar Sudi, Sam Mburu, and various delegations from different parts of the country, have made efforts to visit the grave and the family of the late former prime minister.
