Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested suspects who were captured on surveillance cameras snatching a woman’s handbag along Ngong Road on June 1, 2023.

This is according to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who hailed the detectives for their swift action on Wednesday.

“Thank you @DCI_Kenya for your action. These culprits have been nabbed by the DCI who will give further details of their action. We are grateful for the continued partnership in securing our County,” the county boss said in a tweet.

In a video shared on social media, the gang members riding on about five motorbikes are seen trailing a group of six white women walking on foot. One of the suspects disembarks from the bike and suddenly snatches the victim’s handbag from behind before fleeing on one of the gateway motorbikes.

The distressed woman attempts to run after the thug in vain.

Meanwhile, Sakaja has confirmed that investigations into the Toi and Mutindwa fire incidents that left thousands of traders counting losses are ongoing.

Sakaja said the county leadership had agreed on a decisive action to be taken once the probe is completed.

Mutindwa market in Bururu went up in flames in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary reports, the traders, the traders were unable to salvage any of their goods even as some members of the public took the opportunity to loot.

The inferno came two days after traders in Toi Market lost goods worth millions in a similar fire incident.

Affected traders suspect the unfortunate incidents were well-plotted arson attacks.
