After the Finance Bill 2024 protests rocked the country, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now stated that the voice of the people is important.

The protests forced President William Ruto to withdraw the bill, even though it had been voted for in the National Assembly. Gachagua, while interacting with the public in Kenol, Murang'a County, stressed that the people are important and what they say must be heard.

"The voice of the people is important in the push for better policies and programmes. This afternoon, I had an engagement with the people of Kenol Town, Murang'a County, as I acknowledged their greetings on my way from Maragua," Gachagua said in a statement on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Gachagua's call for education

Meanwhile, Gachagua has also advocated for programmes that will ensure less fortunate children get an education.

According to Gachagua, a good education that comes with knowledge will help those children have better lives in the future.

"It is our endeavour to provide learners with the needed infrastructure and resources to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills that will put them on the right path to making their lives better.

"Today, I was happy to participate in the Maragua Education Endowment Fund in Murang'a County that aims at boosting learning programmes for needy students in the constituency," Gachagua said.

Gachagua's effort to promote needy children is a complement to what his wife, Dorcas Gachagua, has been doing, especially in the Mount Kenya region.

On June 14, Dorcas was in Nyandarua County, where she visited boys undergoing vocational training. More than 300 boys are undergoing vocational training at the Nyandarua Training Centre in Olkalou.

The rehabilitation programmes have been initiated in Embu, Meru, Bomet, and Kiambu counties. The trainees are equipped with building and masonry, housekeeping, cosmetology, graphic design and production, fashion and design, agriculture, shoemaking, welding, and plumbing, among other technical skills.
