Gachagua: There is nobody to hold Ruto to account
By Luke Oluoch, August 10, 2025Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has claimed the president, William Ruto, has morphed into a tyrannical ruler with no one to hold him to account.
While bringing the diaspora community up to speed with affairs at home on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the former DP painted a grim picture of the country’s governance system, stating that Ruto had successfully masterminded a capture of independent institutions and is now ruling with no checks and balances against him.
Gachagua further stated that the country is in a dire state, with acts of impunity involving the killings and abductions of children the order of the day.
Dictator
“What is going on back at home is that the president we elected, and most of you voted for him, has turned against the people of Kenya and has become a dictator who cannot be told by anybody. He is running down the country; he has compromised the opposition and captured parliament and senate, and there is nobody to hold him to account,” he told a town hall meeting.
Gachagua further pointed out that the opposition is now being played by the country’s youths, also known as the Gen Zs.
“Since nature abhors a vacuum, our young children, Gen Zs, have filled the space and become the opposition in Kenya. They said, “What is happening is not acceptable, and it should not be happening, and it is within the constitutional right of freedom of expression to say no,” he stated.

The politician says Gen Zs’ bravery, however, comes at a price, as the government responded by unleashing terror against them.
“The president embarked on a brutal purge against the young people, leading to violent abductions and extrajudicial killings. As a result, in the last two years we have had our young people killed, others maimed, and others disappearing,” he said.
Things are so bad that the president has no fear anymore of killing young children publicly. His interior minister recently gave an order to shoot to kill children. Despite the fact that Kenyans have rights,” he stated.
