Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again gone out to embrace culture by joining hundreds to watch a play at the National Theatre in Nairobi.

In what could have been another busy weekend for the former DP, where he could be making inroads to popularise his newly launched political outfit, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Gachagua joined hundreds to watch the story of Wangu Wa Makeri.

In a statement on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Gachagua confirmed the weekend adventure, which he insisted helped him live in the moment of strong interphase of African philosophy.

“Before us, were great men and women who stood strong and inspired generations after they faded away. Telling the African story, rich in culture, through literary and stylistic devices, is a strong interphase of African philosophy,” Gachagua’s statement read in part.

“Hail our story tellers at the National Theatre, who, in their prowess, re-enact our literary materials and tell stories in a simple language and simple manner to pass and remind us of our rich culture as Africans. This afternoon marked such a moving storytelling session at the National Theater, Nairobi, of the story of one towering woman, Wangu Wa Makeri, of the 1900s,” it added.

Salutes actors

After the afternoon experience, the former DP applauded the actors who re-enacted Wangu Wa Makeri’s story, maintaining that such pieces of artistic works help to keep different cultures alive

“I salute the actors who, through content creation, every day, besides earning a living, offering refreshing content, and keeping our cultures alive,” Gachagua wrote on his official social media page.

Ngemi Cia Ruraya Cultural Festival

Gachagua’s latest gimmick comes days after he graced the Ngemi Cia Ruraya festival held in Seattle, Washington. Gachagua marvelled at the beauty of the festival, which brings together the Gikuyu to celebrate their culture.

“Music is a powerful messaging medium that, over the years, has been effective and efficient. What a memorable evening at the 1st Edition of Ngemi Cia Ruraya held at Saghalie Park, Seattle, Washington,” Gachagua stated after the event.
