Church hands Gachagua Ksh124M food donation

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today received a food donation of Ksh124M from The Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The second in command stated that the donation will benefit over 200,000 Kenyans who live in drought-stricken regions.

“We appreciate our friends and partners for their continued support towards Kenyans affected by the drought situation, especially in ASAL counties.

“Today, I received a food donation worth USD 1 Million from The Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints who had paid me a courtesy call at Harambee House, Annex Nairobi. This donation will benefit 40,000 households, an equivalent of 200,000 people,” Gachagua tweeted.

In November last year, Gachagua appealed to Kenyans to donate food to fellow countrymen hit by the ravaging effects of drought and famine.

The government rolled out a series of food distribution exercises across the nation to cushion residents of the drought-hit counties.

“We appeal to Kenyans to give food so they can be given to those in need. Many Kenyans are suffering and we are making this appeal to help them. No Kenyan should die from hunger when other Kenyans have surplus food,” he said.
