Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sent his condolences to the families affected by the Thursday evening, August 7, 2025, AMREF plane crash in Kiambu County that caused multiple fatalities

The ill-fated AMREF aircraft crashed into a residential area in Mwihoko area, just minutes after taking off from Nairobi. The tragic incident claimed lives, including two crew members, and left a scene of devastation as emergency responders battled to contain the wreckage.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang followed by thick plumes of smoke rising from the crash site. Local authorities, alongside the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and AMREF Flying Doctors, confirmed that investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.

Following the accident, Rigathi Gachagua, in a heartfelt statement, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives on Friday, August 8, 2025, extending sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy and other recent national disasters.

Gachagua condolences

“With heavy hearts, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and I, have learnt of the horrific air crash of the AMREF plane a few minutes after take-off in Nairobi into Mwihoko, Kiambu County,” Gachagua took to his official social media pages.

The Deputy President’s message comes as the nation reels from a string of tragedies, including a deadly collision between a Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) staff bus and a train in Naivasha earlier this week, which also claimed multiple lives.

”My family and I stand with the people of Mwihoko, the victims of the train-bus crash, AMREF plane crash, and the people of Kenya during this difficult moment. May the Lord God rest the Souls of our beloved brothers and sisters who lost their lives in eternal peace and comfort their families.” Gachagua said.

Authorities have cordoned off the Mwihoko crash site, urging residents to stay clear as aviation experts comb through the debris for clues. AMREF Flying Doctors has pledged full cooperation with investigators and offered condolences to the bereaved families.

Rigathi Gachagua is on a tour of the United States of America, popularising his agenda of making President William Ruto a one-term president amid the heightened political temperatures in the country.
