‘Wacheni aibu!’ – Gachagua bitterly lectures Bomet residents after heckling during Ruto’s rally
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday bitterly lectured a section of Bomet residents after they heckled Governor Hillary Barchok during President William Ruto’s rally in Bomet on Saturday.
Addressing the residents, Gachagua expressed utmost disappointment in the residents and furiously warned that he would not condone any disrespect aimed at the Head of State.
He went on to state that the residents should accord the president respect and ensure that their president succeeds since he is their son. The DP noted that it was distasteful that the president was being humiliated by his people when they should lead in respecting him.
“Kumsaidia achaguliwe was one thing and it was very important, but it is even more important to make sure that the President William Ruto succeeds.
Continuing his spiel, the outspoken deputy president stressed that Ruto deserved all the respect he could get considering that he has struggled hard to get to where he is. He also expressed concern over the behaviour which he termed as alarming and wondered why Bomet residents refused to respect Ruto when other counties did.
Gachagua also stated that he would convene a meeting with the area leaders to understand what transpired and ensure that the heckling does not recur.
“I’m asking the people to respect the president na ndio ataheshimika kwengine, lakini aibu nliona jana na juzi i am very concerned. Na hao viongozi wa Kalenjin ntawaita na if they don’t listen to them ntawashtaki kwenu. How do we expect the president to be respected by the rest of Kenya and the world when mnakuja kutoana nguo mbele ya rais wa Kenya,” Gachagua added.
Additionally, the country’s second-in-command encouraged the residents to take advantage of the fact that the president hails from their area to ensure that they have access to resources.
“Hii ndio wakati wenu wa kunyonya. I’m going to call leaders from the area so that they explain to me what is the problem and tell me why they want to embarrass our president,” he added.
Narok residents heckle governor
There was tension on Saturday after a section of Narok residents heckled the area governor during the rally.
Governor Barchok struggled to address the agitated residents who kept booing at him forcing President Ruto to intervene.
The president told off the residents saying he would not tolerate anyone heckling during his rally.
The president asserted that anyone unimpressed by their leader should wait for the upcoming election to vote them out instead of booing them as they speak.
Kama kuna mtu hajafanya kazi mngoje siku ya uchaguzi mtamalizana nayeye, lakini wakati tuko na mkutano,” the Head of State said.
