Gachagua, Kalonzo dismiss rift claims, reaffirm opposition unity

By , September 3, 2025

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka have reaffirmed that the opposition will remain united with identical messages of unity.

Taking to their respective Facebook pages on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the politicians under the People’s Loyal Opposition quelled rumours of possible rifts within the outfit heading into the 2027 polls.

The pair affirmed their individual commitment to what they termed a patriotic duty of liberating the nation and getting it back on track.

United

“We are united in our patriotic duty to liberate our nation. We shall get this nation back on track together. God bless Kenya,” Gachagua’s statement, which was also reposted by Kalonzo.

Their sentiments come days after the opposition brigade moved to deny reports of rifts and divisions within the outfit.

Thursday, August 28, 2025, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa rubbished reports of a fallout with the former Deputy President, dismissing the claims as fake news.

Wamalwa stated that the narrative was a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fake news

The claimed rift, circulated online, suggested that Wamalwa and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi had confronted Gachagua over his decision to field Democratic Change Party (DCP) candidates in areas where they believed their parties were stronger.

“No amount of fake news will shake the unity, resolve and focus of TEAM #WANTAM to beat TEAM #TUTAM both in the coming by-elections and general elections! The die is cast!” he declared.

Wamalwa insisted that the opposition remain united under the emerging “TEAM WANTAM” banner, which is positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the ruling coalition, “TEAM #TUTAM.”

He accused rivals of resorting to propaganda as the opposition gains traction.

TEAM #WANTAM has gotten TEAM #TUTAM out of their comfort zone, running helter-skelter across the country shouting their slogan even in the State House and dishing out millions in handouts to tame the tide. But the die is cast!” Wamalwa said.

As part of their unity agenda, the People’s Loyal Opposition held a high-level strategy meeting at the SKM command centre on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The meeting was attended by senior figures from the opposition, including the People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, Mithika Linturi, former Minister Mukhisa Kituyi, and DPC leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, JB Muturi, and Saitoti Torome also attended the meeting.
