Gachagua, Kalonzo and Sakaja run into each other at consecration service in Nairobi

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja gathered at ACK St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Nairobi, on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
The trio shared live feeds confirming their presence during the consecration and enthronement of the 3rd Bishop of the ACK Nairobi Diocese, Jonathan Kabiru.
Bishop Kabiru was elected on Saturday, January 18, 2025, during official electoral college proceedings. Aged 48, Kabiru served as the Vicar of ACK St. Gertrude Kasarani and Archdeacon of Kasarani Archdeaconry in the Diocese. He is married to Faith Kabiru, and they have 3 children.
Kabiru was ordained as priest on July 27, 2003, and has over 22 years of ministerial experience. He has experience in church administration, mission and evangelism, corporate governance, resource mobilization, leadership and strategy development, and supporting ministry delivery in the diocese.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies (Kenyatta University), a Bachelor of Theology (Kenya Methodist University), and a Diploma in Theology and Development (St. Paul’s University).

Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Sakaja attended the special service, which was presided over by the sixth Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Jackson Nasoore Ole Sapit.
The three politicians who have recently drawn to support different political alignments remained in the service, which extended beyond 1:00 pm to allow the consecration of Bishop Kabiru.
By the time of this publication, the trio had not addressed the congregation. The church had also not expressed an intention of allowing the political leaders to speak due to their strict policy, which was adopted following the anti-government protests.

Gachagua vs Sakaja
Gachagua and Sakaja never saw eye to eye during his tenure as the second in command. The two clashed severally over policies pushed by Nairobi County.
In September 2024, the two traded barbs over the planned relocation of traders from Wakulima Market, popularly known as Marikiti.
Gachagua accused Sakaja of allegedly betraying the traders by failing to heed their demands despite their support for him in the past election.
“When we were campaigning at Wakulima market, there were a lot of people and no one had a problem after receiving many votes; they are now claiming that there is a congestion problem in the CBD,” Gachagua alleged.
“Why didn’t they point that out during the campaign period?” he posed.
Sakaja, in response, accused Gachagua of playing tribal politics and vowed to push on with the planned relocation.
Whereas Kalonzo and Sakaja have clashed bitterly, the Wiper leader recently slammed the Nairobi governor over his request for a chapati making machine during President William Ruto’s city development tour.
