Gachagua denies demanding Ksh8B to resign
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has set the record straight on claims that he demanded Ksh8 billion from President William Ruto to resign.
Addressing the matter during a live interview on Sunday, September 29, 2024, the DP strongly refuted the claims saying he was not interested in money.
The second in command asserted that had he been interested in gaining more money he would have exploited the previous regime when they asked him to ditch Ruto.
He explained that there was no reason for him to make such demands because he didn’t have many obligations.
Gachagua additionally pointed out that he was instead focusing on serving the electorates.
Gachagua’s remarks come after a local daily alleged that he held a meeting with his boss to actualise the deal that would then allow the president to choose another deputy.
The report, however, claimed that the DP banged the table angering the president when his request was declined.
According to the report, the DP arrived at the aforementioned money by multiplying each vote from the Mount Kenya region by Ksh4,000.
This is among the other charges levelled against the DP ahead of his impeachment motion which will be tabled on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
