Gachagua consoles former MP over loss of his daughter

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has consoled former Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament (MP) Anthony Kiai following the death of his daughter.

Gachagua visited the former lawmaker at his home in Nairobi on June 4, 2024, to pass his message of condolences.

Gachagua's friendship with Kiai

The second in command described Kiai as his longtime friend, terming the loss of his daughter Elizabeth Muthoni Kiai as painful and devastating.

"The loss of a loved one is painful and devastating. I have visited the family of my longtime friend and colleague in the last Parliament, the former MP for Mukurwe-ini Hon. Anthony Kiai at their home in Nairobi, following the loss of his dear daughter, Elizabeth Muthoni Kiai," Gachagua said in a statement issued via his official X account on June 4, 2024.

He further described Elizabeth as sociable, hard-working and dedicated person who was so promising and full of life.

"Elizabeth was a sociable, hard-working and dedicated person. She was so promising and full of life," Gachagua said.

The DP said he would stand with the former MP's family in prayers.

Gachagua accompanied by MPs

During the visit to Kiai's home, Gachagua was accompanied by Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, her Embakasi North counterpart James Gakuya, Naivasha's Jayne Kihara, Roysambu MP Augustine Kamande Mwafrika and Nyeri County Assembly Speaker Mwangi Gichuhi.

"We stand with the family in prayers for strength to come to terms with this tragic loss. MPs Beatrice Elachi, James Gakuya, Mejjadonk Gathiru, Jayne Kihara, Kamande Mwafrika and Nyeri County Assembly Speaker Mwangi Gichuhi, among other leaders, joined me to comfort Hon. Kiai and his family. May the Soul of Elizabeth Rest in Eternal Peace," Gachagua posted.

Anthony Kiai served as Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament (MP) from 2017 to 2022. He was a member of the Jubilee Party during his time in Parliament.

Kiai lost his parliamentary seat to John Kaguchia of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
