Gachagua claims Ruto told him he would divide ODM
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, made explosive claims, placing President William Ruto at the centre of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wrangles.
Speaking during a community public rally in Baltimore, USA, the former DP told the diaspora community that Ruto intimated to him about his well-orchestrated plan to divide ODM.
Gachagua narrated that after Ruto established a strong bond with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, he hatched a plan to sow discord in the opposition party and pit leaders against each other.
While sending a warning to Raila, Gachagua claimed that what Ruto said had started manifesting through the current fallout within the party ranks.
“He told me, and it has come to pass that he will come close to you, and he will divide ODM in the middle. Today, as we speak, ODM people are abusing each other: the Luo MPs are abusing the Luhya ones, just what William Ruto told me, that I will go near this ODM, it is a strong party, and I will divide it right in the middle,” Gachagua claimed.

Direct message to Raila
While decrying constant abuse from Raila’s allies, Gachagua sent a warning to the former prime minister, insisting that by the time Ruto is done with him, the ODM party will be finished.
He further claimed that the continued association with Ruto will water down his political influence in the country.
“So, Raila, even though your people are abusing me, let me just inform you, Ruto will finish your ODM party,” Gachagua affirmed.
Besides tearing apart ODM, Gachagua claimed that Ruto told him he would not implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
“I want to tell you, Raila Odinga, that William Ruto told me that the NADCO report will go nowhere. He is just conning you,” Gachagua declared.
“He has told Ichung’wah and company in parliament to delay it until the next elections.”
In a previous engagement with Kenyans in the diaspora, while fielding questions, Gachagua said Raila has lost his influence in parts of the country that voted for him in the 2022 general elections.
He said the ODM leader will not assist Ruto to win the 2027 election because he has lost Kisii, Kamba, and part of the Luhya votes that voted for him in the last election.
