The Controller of Budget has warned county governments against funding foreign trips for Ward Reps.
In a circular, Dr Margaret Nyakang’o says the regional Assemblies should stick to the budget allocated and cautioned county Executives against diverting unbudgeted funds towards such activities.

“It has come to our attention that Executives in several counties have been funding activities of Assemblies from their own budgets. This includes funding of foreign trips and payment of daily subsistence allowances for domestic travel without clarification,” the circular.

Nyakang’o further said both arms of the county government must adhere to ceiling of their budget allocations, warning that her office will not approve any withdrawals from public funds for budgets that go against the law.

“Article 225 (5) of the Constitution requires the Controller of Budget not to approve any withdrawal from a public fund unless satisfied that it is authorised by law,” Controller stated in the circular dated September 27.
