Former Rerec boss freed on bond in fake papers case
A former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (Rerec) manager has been charged at a Nairobi court with fraudulently drawing salary and allowances.
Noah Oketch Oluoch was charged with receiving a salary and allowances amounting to Sh1,455,066 from the said company having being employed using a forged degree certificate. The alleged offence took place between April 1 and August 31, 2022 within Nairobi county.
He faced another count of forgery which is contrary to the law.
The court heard that at unknown date and place in the country, Oluoch forged a Master of Business Administration Degree certificate number 0217 in the name of Noah Oluoch Oketch purporting it to be a genuine certificate offered to him by the University of Nairobi which was false.
Forged documents
He was further charged with uttering forged documents contrary to Section 353 as read together with Section 349 of the penal code.
The prosecution told the court that on March 23, 2021 at Rerec offices within Nairobi county with intent to deceive, knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged Master of Business Administration Degree certificate number 0217 in the name of Noah Oluoch Oketch to CPA Peter Mbugua the Chief Executive of the said company purporting it to be genuine which was a false fact.
He appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki and denied the charges. The prosecution did not oppose his release on bond but urged the court to enforce strict bond terms.
He was released on a Sh1 million bond and a surety of similar amount or alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 and further ordered to deposit his passport in court in seven days and not to move out of the country.
