Former PS Lesiyampe claims life in danger after attack at his home

Former Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesiyampe has implored on the government to provide him with security saying his life is in danger.

Dr Lesiyampe, who recorded a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Maralal Police Station, said he has been living in fear since a bandit attack on his car last week.

The suspected bandit gunmen had last week fired bullets at a vehicle Lesiyampe was being driven in on the Baragoi-Barsaloi road, in Samburu North sub county, leaving his driver with gunshot injuries.

The driver has since remained admitted at the Samburu County Referral Hospital. He also cited an incident last year where some bandits attacked his residence and stole some livestock.

The former PS in the Jubilee government now claims that before last week’s attack, he had received credible intelligence reports that some unnamed individuals were planning to assassinate him. “I am here to tell Kenyans about plans to kill me. I have credible information that there are people who have hatched a plot to execute me for reasons unknown to me. The government must not only investigate the reports with the seriousness they deserve, but it must also move fast to provide me with adequate security,” he told journalists in Maralal town.

He said as a result of the attempt on his life, his family has been living under psychological trauma.

Lesiyampe said the two attacks on his vehicle and his residence in Loibornkare village towards the end of last year cannot be by coincidence.

During the attack on his residence, the bandits are said to sent panic in the village as they fired in the air, before breaching the security fence to gain access into the homestead where they stole livestock.

Lesiyampe, his family and several villagers were forced to flee from the village to camp at Maralal town for fear of their lives.
Yesterday, Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ototo confirmed that Lesiyampe had recorded the statement and promised that investigations would be undertaken to establish his fears over his life.

“We are treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves. Our officers will have to dig to the bottom of everything,” said Ototo.
