Former MP Enoch Kibunguchy dies
By Luke Oluoch, December 23, 2025Former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy has died.
News of the politician’s demise has been confirmed by DAP-K party secretary general Eseli Simiyu on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
“R.I.P., Mheshimiwa Enock Kibunguchy, former MP of Lugari Constituency,” Simiyu stated on his Facebook page.
According to reports, the 72-year-old died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Eldoret.
The MP was first elected in 2002 after he succeeded the late Cyrus Jirongo as Member of Parliament for the then Lugari Constituency, before its subdivision into the present-day Likuyani.

He defended his seat in the 2017 general elections on the Ford Kenya (FORD-Kenya) party ticket, under the NASA umbrella, before being trounced by Innocent Mugabe in the 2022 elections after serving for two terms.
He recently announced his bid for MP as he decamped from Ford Kenya to align with the united opposition faction led by the DAP-K side during a visit of the party’s top official at his home in Kongoni, Likuyani.
Jirongo’s death
His passing has further plunged the larger Lugari constituency into mourning, coming days after the demise of Cyrus Jirongo, another veteran politician from the region, who passed on on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Jirongo passed on after a gruesome road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
ODM director of communications Philip Etale is among the people who have paid tribute to the former MP. In his condolences message, Etale described the former legislator’s demise as a sad day for the people of his hometown in Lugari.
“Another tree has fallen. The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again. Even before we lay to rest CJ, his successor in the 2002 general election, Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy, has rested,”
“He would later serve the people of the newly created Likuyani Constituency for two consecutive terms (2013-2022). Sad day for the people of Lugari. Sad month for the people of Lugari. Sad year for the people of Lugari. Lugari has lost. Go well, Mheshimiwa,” he said.
