Ford-K’s Nasa exit null, says Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi

The Ford Kenya faction led by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and Tongaren’s Eseli Simiyu has cautioned Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula against transacting any business on behalf of the party.

The two termed that the exit by Wetang’ula’s wing from the National Super Alliance (Nasa) as null and void, saying they were not involved.

Saying Wetang’ula was masquerading as the leader of the party, they argued that he has no powers to engage in any coalition talks with other parties.

Wetangula’s faction is in talks with other former Nasa partners  Amani National Congress and  Wiper Party and Kanu to establish the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

Delegates conference

“We want tell OKA partners and other political parties engaging Wetang’ula that he is doing it in his private capacity and not on behalf of Ford Kenya,” Wamunyinyi said at a press conference in Nairobi yesterday.

“Ford Kenya members won’t recognise any formation entered with the other parties with Wetang’ula as party leader,” he added.

Wamunyinyi said the planned alliance must be ratified by a properly constituted National Delegates Conference of the party.

The Kanduyi MP said  Wetang’ula should wait for the decision of the High Court on who is the party’s legitimate leader.

“Wetangula knows, he was procedurally removed from office but he rushed to court to obtain orders that have kept our party in turmoil,” he said.

The two also chided Wetangula for relocating the Ford Kenya’s headquarters.

Wamunyinyi said his faction will soon unveil the party’s new headquarters.

May coup

“We are ready to hold a National Delegates Council to elect the party’s national officials in a free, fair and transparent elections,” he said.

 In May last year, a meeting of the National Executive Council resolved to remove Wetang’ula as party leader and replaced him with Wamunyinyi on interim basis.

Eseli, the then Secretary General, said during a delegates meeting that the party had lost its ideals under Senator Wetang’ula’s leadership.

But the High Court on June 25, 2020 issued conservatory orders staying the gazette notice effecting the change and restraining Eseli and Wamunyinyi from representing the party.
