FKF Women’s Division One kicks off Saturday

By , January 3, 2022

Fixtures for the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Women Division One season have been released by the Football Caretaker Committee.

The second tier league will officially start this weekend in various stadiums across the country.

The league, once again, is divided into Zone A and B and will have 24 teams with each zone having 12 teams.

It promises to be an exciting league considering that six teams from the premier league who were relegated last season and six newbies joined the league from the third-tier, FKF Women Regional League.

Makolanders who were relegated last season after 28 years in the premier league, Mathare United Women and Kibera Soccer Sisters are in Zone A as they seek a quick return to the top-tier league while Eldoret Falcons, Oserian Ladies, and Sep Oyugis are in Zone B and harbour similar ambitions of emerging among the top two teams that are guaranteed promotion.

“The spirits are high even though the league has started maybe at a wrong time because people have been on holiday and the preparation has not been good because of the festive season but we believe it will pick up as we continue and we shall do our best because we believe we can bounce back to the premier league, having last played in this league in 2013,” said Eldoret Falcons Coach Joshua Ariko Okwiry.

Top shape

Newcomers Gideon Starlets from Homa Bay and Rongai Eaglets from Nakuru, Uweza Women from Nairobi as well as three other teams are yet to play their regional playoffs to occupy slots marked team A, B, and C.

“We’re making our debut in the league and the feeling is fantastic. We are doing all it takes to ensure that before the kickoff  the team is in top shape,” said Gideons Starlets FC team manager Ademba Peter.
