Firms urged to adopt worker-centred politicies

Recruitment and human resource solution firm, Brighter-Monday, has called for inclusivity from employers to drive the labor market growth.
The firm made those calls during a pre-Labor Day breakfast meeting which brought together several HR practitioners and C-Suite Managers to discuss the topic “Improving Diversity and Inclusivity at the Workplace.”
It comes amid Labour Day celebrations which aim to highlight the importance of labour rights and social justice.
Recent statistics from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics indicate that the unemployment rate in Kenya stands at 7.7 percent, with persons living with disabilities being the most affected.
The event featured three notable guest speakers, who shared their perspectives and experiences on various aspects of diversity and inclusivity. Dorcas Nderitu, Co-founder of Women in HR, spoke on “Diversity and Inclusion at the Workplace – Gender”, highlighting the need for more women in leadership positions and the importance of creating a gender-inclusive workplace.
James Maina, Executive Director of Daima Trust Ltd, shared his insights of “Diversity and Inclusion at the Workplace – PWD”, focusing on the challenges that people with disabilities face in the workplace and the importance of creating an environment that is accessible and supportive.
Crystal Asige, Nominated Senator, spoke on “How Companies Can Leverage Government to Drive Change within their Organisations and More,” calling for diversity and inclusivity and shared examples of how companies can work with the government to drive positive change.
