Fire destroys administration block and classrooms at Jomo Boys High School
Bahati Member of Parliament Irene Njoki has expressed concern following a fire outbreak at Jomo Boys High School that destroyed the school’s administration block and several classrooms.
In a statement issued after the incident on his X handle on Monday, July 13, 2026, the legislator said she was relieved that no lives were lost, confirming that all students, teachers and members of staff were safely evacuated despite the extensive damage caused by the blaze.
The lawmaker praised teachers, members of the local community and firefighters for their swift response, saying their coordinated efforts helped contain the fire before it spread further across the school.
“I have received with concern the news of the fire incident at Jomo Boys High School. I am grateful that all students, teachers, and staff are safe. I commend the teachers, members of the community, and the firefighters for their swift response in containing the fire and preventing further destruction. The incident has caused extensive damage to the administration block and several classrooms,” Njoki said.

The MP noted that the quick intervention prevented what could have been a more devastating incident, while commending everyone involved in the emergency response.
According to the statement by the legislator, the fire caused extensive destruction to the school’s administration block as well as several classrooms, disrupting normal learning activities.
Calls for investigations
The legislator called for a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasising that the safety and welfare of learners must remain a top priority.
“As our security agencies investigate, the safety, protection, and welfare of our children must remain inviolable. Those found culpable should face the full force of the law,” she stated.
The MP further expressed solidarity with the Jomo Boys High School community, assuring students, teachers, parents and staff of her support as they recover from the incident and begin efforts to restore the damaged facilities.
The school fire has come at a time when there has been an outcry over consistent school fires, with authorities often attributing such incidents to arson, electrical faults or other causes pending investigations.
Education and security officials have repeatedly urged schools to strengthen fire safety measures while ensuring that investigations are conducted promptly whenever such incidents occur.
