Another fire outbreak has razed down property running into millions of shillings at Gorofani area in Nairobi’s Gikomba market.
According to sources close to People Daily Digital, the fire broke out in the wee hours of Friday, August 6 destroying businesses and residential houses.
Traders who lost their property to the inferno claim fire outbreaks in the popular open air market have become an all too familiar occurrence to be taken lightly.
The traders accuse the government of taking a back step in implementing precautionary measures against fire outbreaks in the area.
Speaking to a local radio station, the traders claimed that the relevant authorities took too long to respond to their distress calls which excercebated the losses they incurred.
The traders had asked the government to ensure that a fire engine is on standby near Gikomba market in order to ease emergency response in case of a fire.
