Fernandes Barasa: Ndakwa’s win will signal to United Opposition Kakamega is broad-based govt zone
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has stated that a win for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa will send a clear message to the united opposition that Kakamega is firmly under the broad-based arrangement ahead of 2027.
Speaking in Kakamega ahead of the vote-counting exercise on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Barasa, who also serves as the Kakamega ODM chair, expressed confidence in Ndakwa, noting that he has been actively campaigning for him under the broad-based cooperation, and he is sure that Ndakwa will carry the day in today’s minipolls.
He said the people of Malava had exercised their democratic rights, adding that he had toured several polling stations and appreciated the voter turnout despite it being low, which is common during by-elections.

Barasa noted that the focus now is on ensuring calm as residents wait for the tallying to begin. He added that Ndakwa’s victory would reaffirm the broad-based arrangement and serve as a strong warning to the united opposition as Kakamega heads toward the 2027 political season.
According to him, Ndakwa’s win will be a testament that the region is solidly in a broad-based government and will define the voting patterns in 2027.
“Now that will be a vote of confidence in the broad-based arrangement and a warning shot to the so-called united opposition. That kakaMega in 2027 will definitely beat these guys hands down, and that is why we focused all our efforts just to make sure that we are consolidating support for an hon ndakwa,” Barasa said.
On the violence witnessed during the day, Barasa stated that the incidents should be thoroughly investigated if confirmed but emphasised that the overall voting process had been peaceful. He said there were no major disruptions that prevented residents from exercising their democratic right.
Violence in Malava
This comes after voting in the Malava Constituency, where vote counting is expected to begin anytime.

The constituency experienced violent activities during the day, including the burning of a vehicle belonging to DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who has been supporting his candidate, Seth Panyako.
Panyako’s car was also vandalised by a rowdy group.
