Family in agony over killing of son in Dubai

A Nakuru family is crying for justice following the killing of their 28-year-old son in Dubai.
Anthony Baraka who went to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for greener pastures as a casual worker in one of the supermarkets in June 2022 is said to have met his death on December 31, 2023 under unclear circumstances.
“I learnt about my son’s death through other people who saw Kenyans posting him on social media. It was very heartbreaking to learn about it that way,” said Lucy Mwangi.
She explained that Baraka’s death has been shrouded with opaqueness as no official information has been released by the foreign authorities on the incident.
“People who knew him told us that he was found dead in his house where he was poisoned by a female foreigner who has since fled Dubai. We are told that food and drinks were found in the room he was,” said Mwangi.
At their home in Bahati, the family has been holding prayer vigils as they struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss of their loved one in the most unexpected way.
The mother says that her son’s death was a big blow to the family as they were looking up to him on many issues including financial support.
“He was very optimistic to change his life and ours as a family. What happened has left me confused. I don’t know where to start or end handling this matter,” said Mrs Mwangi.
The family explained that they reported the matter at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy in Kenya but no significant progress has been registered.
According to the family, repatriating the remains will cost them approximately Sh1.2 million, a figure which according to them is astronomical.
