Former Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip was on Tuesday night attacked and injured by robbers at the Globe roundabout in Nairobi.

Loitiptip was found bleeding by police officers on patrol and explained to them he had been attacked by several youths who also robbed him of his phone and other valuables.

The youthful politician told the police he was walking to a guest house in Ngara at around 9 pm when he was attacked.

“Officer on patrol found the former Senator at Fig Tree Hotel area while bleeding on his head and mouth. He told the officers that he was coming from CBD on foot enroute to his guest room in Ngara,” police said.

He was rushed to Aga Khan hospital where he is receiving treatment in fair condition. Cases of muggings have however reduced in the city following enhanced patrols by police.

Loitiptip was in October last year arraigned before Nanyuki Law Courts on charges of causing grievous harm to 32-year-old Joy Makena.

He had shot and seriously injured Makena at the Kanu Grounds in Nayuki town following a scuffle before he disappeared to an unknown destination.

Police said the former Jubilee Party’s Senator shot the victim at close range on the right leg above the ankle. He then fled the scene leaving behind his bodyguard and other supporters to attend to the injured woman.
