Former Kenya Prisons boss Wycliffe Ogallo, who was removed from office in November last year after three terror suspects escaped from Kamiti Prison, is one of the former senior officials who could be on their way back to the public service.

Ogallo (pictured), a career civil servant, who is currently the Secretary Administration, State Department for Youth Affairs was one of the senior government officials who were interviewed for the position of Principal Secretary

The names of successful Principal Secretary applicants are expected to be forwarded to the President following the conclusion of the interviews on Saturday. There are 49 PS positions available.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is expected to begin today the process of coming up with the names of successful candidates, with the PSC chair Anthony Muchiri saying the process should be complete in the next four days.

Exonerated

It has also emerged that 1,245 other applicants had by yesterday expressed interest in the positions of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs). The legality of these positions is still the subject of a court challenge by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Questions have been raised in the manner the investigations into the escape of prisoners was conducted and the subsequent dismissal of Ogallo. It has since been revealed that following another probe, Ogallo was exonerated and in March this year, he was appointed as the Secretary Administration.

Ogallo was sworn in on March 26, 2019 and took over from Isaiah Osugo whose term expired.

Amb Muchiri has said the five panels that have been conducting the interviews are already scrutinising the scores to come up with the list of the names of successful applicants to be forwarded to the President for consideration for appointment.
