Ethekon speaks as IEBC concludes enhanced voter registration drive
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Erastus Ethekon has announced the conclusion of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, thanking Kenyans who turned out to enlist as voters.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Ethekon expressed appreciation to citizens who participated in the nationwide drive, describing voter registration as a critical step in shaping the country’s democratic future.
“I sincerely thank everyone who turned out to register as voters and take part in shaping the future of our nation,” he said.
The IEBC chairperson underscored the importance of political participation, citing Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya, which guarantees every citizen the right to free, fair, and regular elections.
“These rights can only be realized through voter registration, which is the gateway to active participation in the electoral process,” he noted.
“Kenyan democracy is therefore in your hands.”

Despite the official end of the ECVR exercise, Ethekon assured the public that voter registration remains ongoing through alternative channels.
Eligible citizens can continue registering at Huduma Centres, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, as well as at constituency offices across the country.
The commission has been ramping up efforts to boost voter numbers ahead of future elections, amid calls for increased civic participation and inclusivity in the electoral process.
