Emotions run high as Raila Odinga’s body arrives at Kasarani Stadium for viewing
The remains of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have finally arrived at the Kasarani International Stadium.
The body, carried on a gun carriage and escorted by the military as instructed by the President, was accompanied by a multitude of supporters from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, snaking along Thika Superhighway before finally reaching the stadium.

Thousands of supporters joined the procession, while many others had already filled the historic venue. The crowds were uncontrollable and overwhelmed by emotion, chanting different titles that have long defined his political career.

Chants of “Jowi! Jowi!” echoed across the air, lighting up the already charged atmosphere.
The procession was led by leaders drawn from the ODM party, such as Kisii governor Simba Arati, who had his vehicle in front of the procession as he tried to calm the uncontrolled crowd as the body entered Kasarani.

Change of venue
This followed a last-minute change of venue for the public viewing from the precincts of Parliament to the 60,000-capacity stadium, after crowds became unmanageable at Parliament, where the viewing was initially scheduled.
Some of Raila’s supporters defied security protocols, forcing their way into Parliament grounds, with a few even climbing the gates in an attempt to gain entry.
As a result, authorities decided that the public viewing be held at Kasarani Stadium, deviating from the earlier plan where the body was to remain at Lee Funeral Home and later be moved to Parliament at noon. Due to the overwhelming crowds, however, the body was taken directly from JKIA to Kasarani.
“The Government wishes to inform members of the public of a change in venue for the public viewing of the body of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga,” the UDA statement read.
“The viewing will now be held at Kasarani Stadium and not at Parliament Buildings as earlier announced. Members of the public are therefore advised to proceed to Kasarani Stadium for the viewing.”

Raila Odinga last visited the stadium two months ago, when he, alongside the Head of State, attended a CHAN 2025 match where he awarded the Harambee Stars team Ksh 500,000 for their victory against Morocco.
